Betting the NRL as a Kiwi — the Warriors and Beyond

Total points and margins

Same-Game Multi — the NRL's Signature Bet

The same-game multi (SGM) has become the defining NRL product. Instead of combining bets from different matches, an SGM lets you stack correlated outcomes within one game — for example, Warriors to win, over 34.5 total points, and a specific centre to score anytime — into a single longer-priced bet.

The appeal is obvious: a modest stake can return a large payout, and the picks tell a coherent story about how you think the match unfolds. The catch is equally important. Bookmakers apply a margin to each leg and then combine them, so a four-leg SGM carries a stacked overround that makes it a low-probability, high-variance bet by design. Correlation is priced in too — the book knows a winning team is more likely to cover a scoring total, so you won't get the "free" value naive multiplication suggests.
